GIVE TO ARCHWAY SCOTTSDALE

Your gifts help support our highly qualified and dedicated staff and faculty. Today, we highlight Elizabeth Gonzalez, one of the many wonderful faculty members at Archway Scottsdale. We reflect on her journey that began over a decade ago, profoundly shaping her life and igniting her passion for education. In 2011, she took a leap of faith and joined the inaugural year of Archway Scottsdale.

After graduating from Arizona State University with a BA in Multilingual/Multicultural Elementary Education in 2010, she faced a pivotal choice: accept a job offer at a Phoenix public school or search for something more special. Driven to find a place to call home, she turned down the job. Her search led her to a small, private classical school that introduced her to the philosophy of Great Hearts. It was here that she discovered the special place she was looking for.

Throughout her 15 years at Great Hearts, her love for curriculum has only deepened. She takes every opportunity Great Hearts provides to enhance her understanding of reading and math instruction, the Socratic method, and the rich tapestry of literature, history, and science. Teaching through a classical lens is not just a job for her; it’s a lifelong quest that Great Hearts nurtures and supports.

“Students are taught how to think, not what to think” (Gonzalez). The school dedicates substantial time to classical literature, which opens a world of imagination and shapes young hearts and minds. This exposure allows students to experience life through the characters and stories they explore together. She is surrounded by colleagues, students, and families who share this passion for learning, creating a vibrant and enriching environment.

As we celebrate Giving Tuesday, we would like to thank the many donors that have supported Archway Scottdale through gifts to Community Investment and Tax Credit.  If you have not taken the chance to support these two important annual campaigns, please consider doing so today.
